The nuclear deal, formally known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), effectively allows Iran to carry on with all activities that are not directly related to its nuclear program. In return, Iran has to limit its nuclear program. Not dismantle it.

For these reasons, many have slammed the nuclear deal including President Donald Trump. Before even being elected, Trump blasted former President Obama’s negotiations of the deal, saying that it was the “worst deal”.

Trump threatened to scrap the nuclear deal, but it seems that it will, for now at least, remain intact. However, Trump is not going to ignore the issue. There is currently a team in place at the White House which is working on ways to ensure that Iran’s compliance is denied.

Since the deal was signed in 2015, the Iranian regime has sped up its ballistic missile program by exploiting numerous loopholes and taking advantage of the tremendous economic resources that were freed up. It has continued to spread terrorism across the Middle East and has not relented in its oppression of the people of Iran.

While Obama was still in office, the Iranian regime knew that it would face no consequences for its belligerence. Obama wanted to keep the nuclear deal in place at any cost, so he simply turned a blind eye to anything the Iranian regime was involved in. The Iranian regime knew that the rest of the West would follow suit.

Numerous sanctions have been placed on Iran since Trump took office, but these most recent ones are especially significant because they target the IRGC (Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps). The IRGC is part of Iran’s military that oversees the country’s export of terrorism and its ballistic missile and nuclear programs.

The IRGC is also responsible for the suppression of the Iranian people at home and often orders crackdown on dissent.

The new bill named “Countering Adversarial Nations Through Sanctions Act” will designate the IRGC as a terrorist entity under Executive Order 13224 and will freeze all IRGC-linked assets.

The bill also means that American people and companies cannot carry out any business or financial transaction with anyone linked to the IRGC.

The IRGC will suffer because it will lose some of its economic power that allows weapon development and terrorist activities to continue.
