The Iranian Regime repeatedly gave assurances to the Government of Gibraltar that the Adrian Darya 1, formally known as the Grace 1, would not deliver oil to any entity sanctioned by the EU in Syria or elsewhere.
In a statement on the Government’s official website, it said: “It is now clear that Iran has breached these assurances and that the oil has been transferred to Syria and Assad’s murderous regime. Iran’s actions represent an unacceptable violation of international norms and the UK will raise the issue at the United Nations later this month.”
Raab summoned the Iranian Ambassador yesterday in order to condemn Iran’s actions, although it is not known exactly what he said.
In a statement, Raab said: “Iran has shown complete disregard for its own assurances over Adrian Darya 1. This sale of oil to Assad’s brutal regime is part of a pattern of behavior by the Government of Iran designed to disrupt regional security.”
He continued: “This includes illegally supplying weapons to Houthi insurgents in Yemen, support for Hezbollah terrorists and most recently its attempts to hijack commercial ships passing through the Gulf.”
This refers to the seizure of the British-flagged Stena Impero oil tanker, seized by Iran in the Gulf at the end of July. Iran said that the tanker had violated maritime law, but this is believed to be a flimsy excuse to cover for the fact that Iran only seized the tanker in retaliation for the legitimate detainment of the Adrian Darya 1.
Raab said: “We want Iran to come in from the cold but the only way to do that is to keep its word and comply with the rules based international system.”
The reality is, of course, that the Iranian Regime will never abide by the rules of the international community. The mullahs are incapable of change, something that should have been obvious over the past 40 years.
The only way for Iran to become a free and democratic republic is for the international community to support the Iranian Resistance, who are ready and willing to create a representative government in Iran and overthrow the religious dictatorship currently in charge. The only thing the Resistance needs is for the rest of the world to stop appeasing the Iranian Regime.
