Inflation continues to soar in cash-strapped Iran

The latest price rises come after hikes in the cost of all basic foodstuffs in the regime.

Beef has increased in price by 83 percent to more than 15,000 Tomans per kilo in the past year, and lamb has increased by 30 percent to more than 11,000 Tomans per kilo, according to Iranian statistics center figures.

Gasoline has also gone up in price by 800 Tomans, the parliament’s planning and budget commission said.

Spokesman Gholamreza Kateb told the state-run IRNA news agency: “with the approval of the budget bill which will be announced after the election, the increase in the rate of energy carriers will be operational.”

“In this bill the parliament approved an increase in the gasoline price to 800 Tomans, a 30 percent increase in the rate of CNG, and an increase in the diesel price to 400 Tomans.”
