Iran Diplomats Face Restrictions in New York City

The information was sent in a diplomatic note to the Iran mission to the United Nations earlier this week.

On Sunday, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said that Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammed Javad Zarif is limited to a six-block radius while he is in New York. He also explained that the Foreign Minister was only granted a U.S. visa because of the country’s obligation to the United Nations (because the United States hosts the UN headquarters).

The UN is holding a high-level political forum on sustainable development and the Iranian delegation arrived on Sunday. Zarif is only permitted to travel between John F.
Kennedy, the Iranian UN ambassador’s residence, the United Nations building and the Iranian UN mission.

The US Special Representative for Iran Brian Hook said that the United States has put specific protocols in place so that the six-block radius is respected.

The other diplomats that are also subject to the same restrictions as the Foreign Minister, however they (for an unknown reason) are also permitted to travel in a several block radius in a part of Long Island.

Over the past few months, the Iranian regime has become more and more belligerent and its threats are increasing. It has been identified as the number one state sponsor of terrorism and it is responsible for some horrific human rights abuses that continue to this day.

Ironically, the Iranian delegation was arriving to attend the UN ministerial meeting that is tackling issues such as climate change, conflict, gender equality and hunger – all of which are major issues that the regime has worsened in its country.

This past weekend, a number of distinguished guests including MPs, former officials, jurists and human rights experts and activists spoke at the Free Iran gathering, an annual event organised by the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI, Mujahedeen-e Khalq, MEK).

Personal attorney to President Trump and former mayor of New York City Rudy Giuliani said that foreign countries need to stand up to the Iranian regime. He praised the government of Albania for taking a stand against the mullahs by expelling Iran’s ambassador and his diplomat for plotting terrorist activities on Albanian soil against the opposition residing in the country. He also criticised the European countries that are continuing to appease the Iranian regime with their inaction. He said that European countries are the pioneers of democracy, yet they are shamefully ignoring the crisis in Iran.

A number of other personalities, including the leader of the Iranian opposition Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, called on EU governments to take a firm stance against the regime’s belligerence, highlighting that it had been plotting terror attacks that could have caused numerous casualties and fatalities had they not been foiled.
