Rudy Giuliani: US sanctions will spur Regime change in Iran

He explained that Trump’s support of the Iranian protesters, which he compared to Ronald Reagan’s support of Polish protesters during the Cold War, meant that the collapse of the Iranian Regime was just “around the corner”.

He said: “This president does not intend to turn his back on freedom fighters.”

Giuliani made these comments at last weekend’s Free Iran gathering in Paris, organised by Iran’s government-in-exile, the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), where over 100,000 people came to support the Iranian Resistance and decry the Regime that had subjected its own people to decades of oppression and abuse.

The sanctions are returning following Trump’s decision to withdraw from the flawed Iranian nuclear deal, but some in Europe are trying to save the deal and protect the mullah’s Regime from sanctions. Giuliani issued a warning to the West about what trading with Iran is really all about.

He said: “I say to those countries—to those countries that continue to support Iran, to those countries that do business with Iran: You are paying for a regime that deprives women of their rights, that deprives children of their rights, and that murders people because they practice a different religion. How can you do that? How much better are you than the terrorists when you are giving them money and propping up this regime? Women’s groups, in particular, all over the world should demand that those businesses that continue to do business with this regime should be boycotted. And we should stop doing business with them.”

Giuliani’s comments are in line with Trump’s tough tactics on the mullahs, including pulling out of the 2015 nuclear deal, reimposing tough sanctions on Iran’s already failing economy and warning of sanctions against American allies who continue to import Iranian oil.

Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani has hit back with barely-veiled threats against regional oil exports from other countries, like Saudi Arabia. Although he did not say what would happen, the Iranian Regime has previously threatened to block the Strait of Hormuz, a major oil shipping route, if the US acted against Iran.

The Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) has agreed to up production from other countries to meet demands after Iranian oil is sanctioned again.

The annual Free Iran rally came as ongoing protests in Iran reached startling levels last week, with thousands taking to the streets to protest foreign military action, human rights abuses, and environmental disasters that the mullahs are failing to ease.

NCRI president Maryam Rajavi spoke at the conference about the Iranian people’s desperate desire for change.

She said: “The uprisings over the last six months have shown the wheels of change have begun turning in Iran. Nothing can now stop the determined people of Iran from obtaining freedom. The page has turned. There is no going back. The Iranian people are determined to overthrow this regime. The regime is extremely vulnerable. Regime change in Iran is within reach like never before. A bright future without executions, torture and suppression is coming.”

On Monday, it was revealed that the Iranian Regime was behind a foiled terror attack that would have targeted the Free Iran gathering, after Belgian police arrested six people, including an Iranian diplomat.
