Iran will be a main focus, as instability in the region stems from that country. Strong reactions to the conference by the regime in Iran were expected, so it was no surprise when Tehran summoned the Polish Ambassador and publicly called for cancellation of the conference.
The international community has begun to realize that the Iranian people want change and an to the alternative to this regime. Iranians are supporting the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) and People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK). In fact, on the first day of the conference, a rally will be held to voice support for the NCRI led by Maryam Rajavi as the democratic alternative to the regime.
Former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani, former Algerian Prime Minister Sid Ahmed Ghozali, former US Senator Robert Torricelli and several Polish Members of Parliament and the Senate will also participate in rally. A press briefing will be held prior to the rally.
Concerns over this regime’s human rights violations at home, its export of terrorism in the region through its proxies, as well as its support for the Assad dictatorship in Syria, have drawn criticism from abroad and sparked ongoing anti-regime protests at home.
The regime has increased its terrorist activities against its main opposition, the MEK and the democratic coalition of the NCRI, who they admit are the power behind the anti-regime activities. The MEK formed Resistance Units all over the country during 2018. These units maintain the pace of the protests.
The protests during 2018 saw more than 10,000 people arrested — including many MEK activists. State controlled media report that MEK activists have been sentenced to several years for participating in the protests. Meanwhile, the regime has launched a massive propaganda and disinformation attack to counter the MEK’s growing popularity inside the country.
In Warsaw, at the conference, the Iranian people who are gathered there will call for the delegates to condemn the ongoing human rights violations in Iran, and will demand a firm policy on the regime. As well, the people will urge that strong actions be taken against the regime over its terrorism outside Iran, and that the right of the Iranian people to overthrow the religious dictatorship ruling Iran be recognized and supported.
Maryam Rajavi’s ten-point plan for a free republic base on separation of religion and state, gender equality, and a non-nuclear Iran is what the Iranian people desire, and will go far towards establishing peace in the Middle East.
