Statement by Maryam Rajavi, the President-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran about the election in Iran:

“The Iranian regime’s election is a sham designed to deprive the Iranian people of their right to sovereignty and their dreams of freedom. A rigged election is no election at all. As the primary advocate for a peaceful and Democratic Iran, our resistance rejects the clerical regime’s election, and the world should reject the results. The supreme leader has manipulated the election before it even begins, disqualifying hundreds of candidates who were not deemed loyal to him in their beliefs. The Iranian people reject this masquerade. The only way to freedom in Iran is regime change by the Iranian people and the resistance.

While the nature of this election shows that regime has made another giant leap toward downfall, the true message of this election is that there is no solution for change from within this regime. It is the voice of the Iranian people that needs to be heard.

The Iranian resistance is working for a pluralistic society based on free and fair elections, with equality for all Iranians. We want a non-nuclear Iran and a tolerant nation with a secular democratic republic, based on the separation of religion and state. As the leading organized opposition group, we pursue an Iran that is peaceful and free, as its people deserve.”
