INU - The first few weeks of 2018 were marked by widespread protests across Iran. Some people chanted “Death to Rouhani” and some chanted “Death to the Supreme Leader”. The want their voice to be heard and they are not mincing their words.

INU -At the end of December, protests broke out across Iran. The people took to the street to voice their discontent with the way the Iranian regime is dealing with the economic crisis that is resulting in huge problems for the people who are struggling to even afford the most basic of necessities.

White House Calls for Release of Protesters in Iran

INU -There have been numerous reports circulating this week regarding the abuse and torture of protesters and prisoners in Iran. The Iranian regime’s main opposition, the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), has said that there have been at least 50 protesters that have died during the recent wave of protests. It also reports that there have been at least 8,000 protesters arrested.

The Arts & Social Gatherings Targeted by Iran Regime After Protests

INU - Expressing their culture through the arts has been severely limited for the Iranian people by the regime, who has cracked down on anything it deems immoral or against strict fundamentalist principles. This includes acting, painting, writing, songs, and dance.
Concerts and other events have been cancelled, denying Iranians the right to gather and celebrate art. The artistic community has been forced underground. However, the regime actively tracks down these underground events. Constant monitoring of social media and cyberspace is one of the key ways they do this.

Iranian Media's Coverage of Recent Protests Is Reviewed and Explained

INU - Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei warned against altercations among officials through media platforms and social movements during electoral campaigns. The war he spoke of isn’t restricted to authorities and social media. The media has become a battlefield between official and unofficial media. While Iranian channels report news from Iranian officials, Persian channels outside Iran show a totally different coverage.
