Coronavirus Causing Rifts Among Iranian Officials

As the novel coronavirus claims more lives among citizens, Iranian authorities lay blame on each other to evade responsibility.

The coronavirus pandemic was something that Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei originally saw as a “blessing” and an “opportunity” but has now become the regime’s worst nightmare.

They initially thought that the infectious and deadly disease would be enough to prevent protests but not only has that failed, but regime infighting has increased exponentially.

That latest infighting can be seen at the Health Ministry, where Health Minister Said Namaki refused to acknowledge his role in the crisis and blamed medical research instead.

While at Isfahan University of Medical Sciences on Thursday, he said: “Even one of the predictions in this regard [the coronavirus outbreak] was not correct. A minister with such broken findings is not able to run the country’s health sector.”

His research deputy, Reza Malekzadeh, wrote a letter to Namaki shortly after to announce his resignation and accuse Namaki of shirking responsibility.

“Whenever the number of cases and deaths has increased, you have shied away from accepting responsibility. Yet, whenever the statistics have slightly decreased, you have claimed to teach the world how to manage the COVID-19 crisis. You recently spoke of launching a vaccine campaign in Iran,” he wrote in his resignation letter.

Shortly after this, vice-president and secretary of the coronavirus Advisory Council Ali Nobakht also resigned.

Iran: Two Senior Officials of Health Ministry Resign in a Day

While dormer Deputy Minister of Health Dr. Moayed Alaviyan said that the Health Ministry has failed to control COVID-19 and that they should “raise the white flag” and admit it.

This shows that the regime is failing miserably to deal with the coronavirus crisis, that the rising death toll is the mullahs’ fault, and that the health system is deteriorating.

On Monday, the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK), revealed that over 171,200 Iranians have died because of coronavirus, although they noted this should be considered a minimum because of the regime’s cover-up.

“Despite the regime’s efforts to use the coronavirus outbreak to control the restive society, recent remarks and the regime’s health officials’ resignation show mullahs’ strategy has failed,” The National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) stated.

“The regime’s mismanagement has increased the public’s hatred toward the regime. In addition to society’s restiveness, the people’s tremendous anger and dissatisfaction are transmitted continuously to the system by the regime’s apparatus’s medical and administrative staff as a constant pressure,” the statement reads.

The regime’s health officials are calling for an immediate lockdown, but the regime cannot do this because it will not use any of their ill-gotten gains to support those in need during lockdown – money that they instead spend on warmongering and terrorism – and this would lead poor people to revolt.

The regime issued “extreme restrictions” but these are described by health experts as having more to do with security than disease prevention, which is because the mullahs know that the people are ready to revolt.
