Iran’s Ruler Fears the Country’s Situation To Be In a ‘Sensitive and Decisive Point’

‘Down with Khamenei’, written on the walls of Iran’s streets, November 2019 protests

In recent weeks, a wave of concern, disappointment, and fear about the future of Iran’s governments and its officials and affiliates can be seen in their own speeches.

But after the speech of Iran’s supreme leader Ali Khamenei in the Persian new year ceremony, about the ‘enemies ambush’, this concern has been increased, and Khamenei’s ‘wings’ in the parliament, the judiciary and his Friday prayers leaders are crying about this situation.

Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf showed his frustration about the people’s hatred against the rule and said: “The current situation of the Islamic Revolution is a very serious situation. Some are disappointed, some say other things, some regret their own past.” (State TV News Channel, April 6, 2021)

The state-run daily Mostaghel, pointing to the people’s hatred and the serious rapture in the relation between them and the government, wrote:

“The country is in a pre-crisis stage. The unconventional combination of sanctions, mismanagement of the country’s economic situation puts the country at a critical and sensitive juncture.” (Mostaghel, April 6, 2021)

Ebrahim Matinian, one of the MPs, warned officials and said: “Let us hear the voices of the people before it is too late.” (Radio Farhang, April 6, 2021)

Ali Babai, another MP, warned Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani and said: “Mr. President, I think you should resign and say that I cannot even run a small chicken distribution business in the country based on the constitution.” (ICANA, April 6, 2021)

Mehrdad Vis Karami, another MP, declared the reason for the current situation to be the lies that the official have said to the people and said: “Unfortunately, we lied a lot. People do not trust our responsible profession speeches.” (ICANA, April 6, 2021)

Ahmad Alireza Beigi, another MP, showed his concern about the people’s turning away from the government and said: “The level of political participation of the people has reached an unacceptable level and the threats related to the conspiracies of the enemy are quite serious.” (ICANA, April 6, 2021)

Despite the MPs comments, other officials like Ebrahim Raisi, the head of the Judiciary, said with agitation: “Whatever disappoints people today should not be done. If God forbid, it will be done differently, it will cause despair, and this despair is what the enemy is looking for.” (State TV Aflak Channel, March 30, 2021)

And the supreme leader showed his concern too and in his speech on March 15, 2021, saying: “The enemy is constantly working to frustrate, distract and deter young people. The enemy is constantly planning. The enemy‘s plans many of them are known for us are now, maybe not all but most of them are being reported to us and we know them and are informed.

“On the other hand, your effort should be too safe your youth and you can do it. Do not let the temptation of the enemy affect the youth and be able to inert them and eventually recruit them.” (State-run website Khabar Fori, March 30, 2021)

The objective conditions for the rise of society are so serious that the state-run daily Arman, on April 7, 2021, acknowledged the people’s hatred wrote, which of course is just one of the examples of the many like articles in the state-run media:

“Helplessness in the daily management of life and fear of the future have filled many Iranians with anger and rage. They do not have the patience to listen to anything and do not trust anything. They just curse. They make violent threats. The consequences of these conditions are quite obvious.”
