Johan Bolton Calls for Regime Change in Iran

Bolton described Syrian President Bashar al-Assad as “effectively a satellite of Iran,” and “Iran’s henchman in Damascus.” He went on to accuse President Obama of failing to recognize or respond to the threat posed by Tehran.

“[T]he Assad regime, loathsome as it is, couldn’t survive without substantial Iranian assistance,” Bolton wrote. “And it is Iran, through its pursuit of nuclear weapons and its decades-long role as international terrorism’s central banker, which poses the central danger.”

With this in mind, Bolton described US involvement in the Syrian Civil War as “a sideshow,” and he recommended “going to the source” by “vigorously pursuing regime change in Iran.”

It goes without saying, thus, that Bolton is disappointed with the soft tone of nuclear negotiations with Iran. He accuses the US and Europe of following the worst policy and encouraging Iran to continue its pursuit of nuclear weapons and its financing of terrorist groups throughout the world.
