After the numerous revelations by the Iranian resistance regarding the warmongering and crisis-creation activities of Iran’s regime in the Middle East, the international community is slowly realizing the necessity of shifting its focus towards the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC).
It is evident that proponents of the shameful policy of appeasement have no intention of countering the mullahs’ regime and its global export of terrorism unless they have no alternative but to do so.
In this context, two reputable publications, ‘The Daily Telegraph’ and ‘Mail Online,’ disclosed that following the Hamas attack on Israel, the United States urged Rishi Sunak, the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, to blacklist the IRGC.
On October 21, 2023, ‘The Daily Telegraph’ reported, quoting Matthew Miller, the official spokesperson of the US State Department:
“We absolutely think that other countries should designate the IRGC as a terrorist organization. It’s a position that we’ve made clear a number of times. They finance terrorist activities, they have been around the world for some time, and we think that other countries should take that step of designating them.”
‘The Daily Telegraph’ also quoted Liam Fox, former Defense Minister of the UK, addressing UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak:
“The view from the American government can not be clearer, that they expect their allies to act and act swiftly to proscribe the IRGC. Isn’t it time for our country to question why Iran’s regime-affiliated banks operate in London and why Iranair operates from Heathrow Airport? Furthermore, why have we not yet blacklisted the IRGC? I firmly believe we should.”
The inclusion of this anti-Iranian organization in the terrorist lists of foreign nations has been a long-standing goal of Iran’s resistance. Its listing by the United States and Canada is the result of countless hours of persistent work by the members of this resistance, who have tirelessly educated the public in America and Europe. Iran’s resistance remains unwavering in its efforts in this regard.
However, the Iranian resistance has not limited itself to seeking the IRGC’s listing; it has also called for the “dissolution” of this terrorist entity and its complete removal from Iran and the region.
In August 2020, the Iranian Resistance first called for the “dissolution of the Revolutionary Guards” and the allocation of its budget and resources to aid the impoverished and disadvantaged people who bear the brunt of soaring costs.
Following this message, the hashtag ‘Dissolution of the Revolutionary Guards’ gained prominence in the political discourse of the opposition.
Article 2 of the 10-point plan of Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, the president-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), explicitly calls for the ‘dissolution of the Revolutionary Guards’ and other repressive institutions.
Article 2 of her Ten-point plan states: “Freedom of speech, freedom of political parties, freedom of assembly, freedom of the press and the internet. Dissolution and disbanding of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), the terrorist Quds Force, plainclothes groups, the unpopular Bassij, the Ministry of Intelligence, Council of the Cultural Revolution, and all suppressive patrols and institutions in cities, villages, schools, universities, offices, and factories.”
As previously highlighted, the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps was established with the explicit purpose of preserving the mullahs’ rule, exporting terrorism beyond Iran’s borders, and suppressing both the population and revolutionary forces. Neither its name nor emblem bears any trace of Iranian nationality.
The constitution of this organization identifies the suppression of dissent and opposition as one of its core duties. When uprisings occur, this repressive force is tasked with quelling them alongside the regime’s police. “Acting as a dispenser of justice” is a defined responsibility of the IRGC, granting it the authority to arrest, torture, and execute regime opponents at will. During nationwide uprisings, this force plays a pivotal role on behalf of the regime’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei.
The Quds Force, the IRGC’s overseas branch, is responsible for exporting fundamentalism and executing terrorist operations outside Iran. Its primary mandate is to eliminate threats to the regime’s existence by deploying various mercenaries in other nations. This mission is clearly illustrated in the ongoing crisis in Gaza.
It is evident that proponents of the disgraceful appeasement policy are only compelled to consider blacklisting the IRGC when they have no other recourse. Notably, Le Monde reported on January 13, 2023:
“The European Union is moving closer to a decision. With the surge in death sentences and the implementation of the death penalty to suppress the 2022 uprising, 27 member states of the Union are contemplating designating the Revolutionary Guards as a terrorist group. A similar proposal is under consideration in the UK.”
At that time, the expectation was that the European Union would take steps in this direction, but once again, appeasement policy prevailed, and the EU refrained from designating the IRGC as a terrorist organization.
As long as appeasers refrain from taking a decisive stand against religious fascism, the belligerent leaders of the IRGC will continue to escalate their aggressive actions and expand their propaganda. Unfortunately, the leaders of the EU prioritize their economic interests over the safety of their citizens and peace in the Middle East.
European countries are now experiencing the bitter consequences of their appeasement with fascism. The European Union and the UK must promptly blacklist the IRGC. Allowing a terrorist, warmongering dictatorship to flourish at the expense of the people and the resistance of Iran comes with a hefty cost for the region and global peace.
