With that in mind, we wanted to look at how Maryam Rajavi, leader of the Iranian Resistance, would support women’s rights in a Free Iran. In this part, we will look at the freedoms, rights, and equality that Maryam Rajavi believes all women should enjoy.
Fundamental freedoms and rights

Maryam Rajavi says that women should have the same human rights, legal rights, and fundamental freedoms as men, regardless of any other factor (i.e. age, race, religion, sexuality, social class), so she would ban all forms of discrimination against women.
Maryam Rajavi wants women to have the freedom to pursue any job that they wish and the education to get them there, but she would also make sure that the company or school cannot punish a woman for not wearing a hijab.

She also believes that women must be freely able to choose their own spouse, decide if and when to have children, choose to divorce if needed and to be able to voice their views in the custody and guardianship over their children.
Maryam Rajavi said that women should be able to travel freely, without the permission of a man, and even leave Iran to obtain foreign citizenship if they so wish, with the ability to devolve citizenship to their children.

Equality before the law
Maryam Rajavi believes that the protection of the law should apply equally to women and men, which includes equal rights in the courts. This would mean that courts would have to view the testimonies and affidavits of women as equal to that of men.
Maryam Rajavi also believes that women must have access to guaranteed judicial recourse in the face of violence, rape, discrimination, and deprivation of liberty.

She would also raise the age of criminality to 18 for girls.
Maryam Rajavi would also remove the sexist laws on the books that seek to punish women solely. This includes the ridiculous forced veiling law, which has long been used to control women and deny them freedom and security. Maryam Rajavi would remove any government interference is the clothing of women.

Equal participation in political leadership
Maryam Rajavi believes that women have the right to participate “in the formulation of government policy and the implementation thereof and to hold public office and perform all public functions at all levels of government”. Thus, she would remove any laws that prevent or limit women from holding government posts or senior judicial and legal positions.

Maryam Rajavi believes that, in order to remove inequality, it is necessary for the government to appoint women to at least half of the political posts and for political parties to make sure that had of their candidates at election are women.

Equality in the economic sphere
Maryam Rajavi believes that women and men should have equal opportunities in the labour market, with equal pay for equal work, job security and complete benefits.
Maryam Rajavi believes that women should have the same rights as men in terms of inheritance, entering contracts and management of property. She believes this should also be true for accessing housing, appropriate nutrition, medical services, employment, and leisure activities.

In our next piece, we will discuss equality in the family sphere and the prohibition of violence against women.
