Condemnation of Iran Regime’s Crackdown on Protesters

At the same time, ex-pat Iranians and supporters of the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) have voiced their solidarity with the nationwide uprising that shook the mullahs’ regime to its very core.

On Saturday, in Stockholm, Sweden, demonstrators held a rally to express their support for the Iranian people’s uprising and the actions that rebellious cities across the country have taken. The demonstrators urged the international community to condemn the mullahs’ killing spree and hold the regime officials accountable for crimes against humanity. They also supported the call for a UN fact-finding mission to be sent to Iran, which was initially made by President Maryam Rajavi, head of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI).

On the same day, there were also rallies across Australia, in Sydney, Melbourne, and Canberra, in support of the Iranian people’s uprising and condemning the regime’s murder, arrest, and torture of protesters.

Similar rallies were held in Oslo, Norway; Ottawa and Toronto of Canada; and Hamburg, Germany.

There have also been several condemnations by European politicians against the Iranian regime’s crackdown on the protests.

The European Union’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Joseph Borrell, issued a statement on Sunday voicing his concerns.

He said: “For the European Union and its Member States, the widespread and disproportionate use of force against nonviolent protestors is unacceptable.”

The Portuguese Parliament adopted a resolution voicing concerns over the regime’s killing spree against protesters, with the Socialists, Socialist Democrats, the Lefts, the Popular Party, the Nature Party and others voting for the adoption of this initiative, with a near-unanimous vote.

The resolution, named “For those killed in demonstrations in Iran”, reads in part: “The recent events in Iran is a concerning example of illegal killings by the Iranian regime’s security forces where they used excessive forces in their intense crackdown of recent protests… The report also shows live bullets fired from rooftops and from a helicopter in one case. Based on these reports, the Portuguese Republic Parliament expresses its concerns over the deaths of protesters killed in recent weeks and calls for an end to the regime’s crackdown.”

Danish Foreign Minister Jeppe Koford condemned the crackdown.

He said: “The European Union has a common opinion with a clear criticism of Iranian authorities’ unacceptable use of force against protesters. Denmark has worked for a clear and unambiguous joint opinion. It has succeeded. Freedom of speech and assembly must be respected.”
