Iran dissidents hold rally outside UN

By INU Staff

INU- A crowd of Iranian dissidents held a protest against the Iranian Regime’s human rights violations and terrorism outside the United Nations headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland, on Tuesday, as the international body convened the 40th session of its Human Rights Council.

The demonstration, held at the Place des Nations, called on the UN to remove the Iranian regime from its membership and replace them with the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), which serves as a parliament-in-exile and is the legitimate representative of the Iranian people.

Demonstrators put up large posters of the people executed by the Iranian Regime for political activism, highlighting that in the past four decades the mullahs have executed over 120,000 Iranian dissidents, mainly members of the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK).

The protesters also urged the UN to launch an official investigation into the 1988 massacre, when over 30,000 political prisoners, mostly PMOI/MEK members and supporters, were executed following sham trials on the orders of then-supreme leader Ruhollah Khomeini in what has become known as a summer of blood.

The demonstrators also voiced their support for the NCRI and its president-elect Maryam Rajavi, as the only democratic alternative to the malign Regime. Rajavi has a ten-point plan for the future of a free Iran that, in direct contrast with the mullahs, includes:
• the establishment of a free and democratic state
• equal opportunities to all Iranians regardless of their gender, ethnicity and religion
• the abolishment of executions and all sorts of torture
• the end to nuclear and ballistic missile ambitions
• the end of terrorism sponsorship
Many politicians believe that Rajavi and the NCRI are the best solution to the Iranian Regime and the myriad of threats that it poses to peace and security around the world and the demonstrators clearly agree.
They chanted: “Democracy, freedom, with Maryam Rajavi.”

The protesters also showed their support for the Iranian “Resistance Units”, which are made up of PMOI/MEK supporters inside Iran, who challenge the Iranian regime and its repressive forces.

They chanted: “Resistance units, we support you.”
In the past year and a bit, since the nationwide anti-regime uprising took hold in December 2017, these Resistance Units have been setting fire to posters and banners of regime leaders and icons, as well as putting up posters of Rajavi and murdered dissidents, in order to undermine the Regime’s efforts to quash the popular protests.
