Iranian citizens resumed the anti-regime protests and strikes on October 12 for the 27th consecutive day. According to the opposition Mojahedin-e Khalq (MEK), the demonstrations have expanded to more than 185 cities across Iran.

Instead of hearing fundamental grievances and demands, authorities responded to citizens with violence. Field reports say security forces have killed at least 400 citizens, injured thousands, and detained more than 20,000.

Merchants on Strike

Reports from different cities say merchants are on strike based on prior notice. In Kurdistan province, merchants refused to launch their businesses in Sanandaj, Saqqez, Baneh, Marivan, and Dehgolan.

Furthermore, merchants are on strike in the country’s second-largest city Mashhad in Razavi Khorasan and Sar Pol-e Zahab in Kermanshah.

Petrochemical Employees’ Strike

For the third day in a row, petrochemical employees continue the strike in Asaluyeh, Bushehr. They set several tires ablaze and blocked the Asaluyeh-Kangan Road, preventing security forces’ transfer. Employees are too sensitive about people’s property, warning each other about not harming private vehicles.

Notably, petrochemical employees of Abadan and Kangan declared their support for the strike and joined it yesterday, October 11. Footage shows the workers getting ready to confront oppressive forces in preempting acts.

Internet Shutdown in Iran

According to the Internet observatory of Netblocks, the regime has severely restricted the internet from 8:00 am local time. The regime had officially declared that it would cut off mobile internet daily from 4:00 pm to 12:00 am, following the continuation of protests.

However, authorities breached their previous directive by cutting off the internet eight hours earlier. Many observers and rights activists believe the internet shutdown is equivalent to a bloody crackdown on defenseless protesters.

Defiant Youths Write Anti-Regime Slogans in Public

As the regime intensifies suppression, brave youths tirelessly write anti-regime slogans on the walls in various cities, inciting citizens to continue protests. Protesters wrote, “[Supreme Leader Ali] Khamenei is a murderer,” “This is the year of [Khamenei’s] overthrow,” “The mullahs must get lost,” etc. in Sanandaj, Kurdistan province, and Zahedan, Sistan & Baluchestan province.

Field Reports and Protesters’ First-Hand Experience

On October 11, the MEK published excerpts of reports provided by its domestic network “Resistance Units.” Here are parts of a report from Tehran:

“Conflicts were intense in Haft-Howz square, Narmak district. Citizens severely resisted the Revolutionary Guards (IRGC) special forces known as Imam Ali battalions,” the report read. “IRGC forces were extremely suppressing protesters. However, the youths had formed 20-person groups and confronted them.”

“These special battalions are armed with different weapons. In response, citizens defended themselves with Molotov cocktails and pushed back the oppressors.

“Worth noting that the conflicts amazingly expanded to Niavaran district—a wealthy region in northern Tehran. Young girls and boys clashed with the regime’s forces in various streets.

“In Tehranpars district, older citizens had opened the door of their homes on the excuse of car washing. They hosted protesters in their homes, preventing security forces from detaining them.

“The regime had injected several plainclothes agents into the crowd of demonstrators. The agents’ task was to steal protesters’ cell phones, which led authorities to identify protesting people later.

“The regime also uses public sites, where nobody thinks about them, as detention centers. Authorities also fired teargas at citizens from food truckers or held and transferred detainees on food truckers and ambulances.”
