In view of the ongoing protests against the authoritarian regime in Iran, the security forces are to be paid more.

The parliament of the regime approved a 20 percent increase in salaries in Tehran on Sunday, the state news agency IRNA reported.

This is justified by the fact that the regime is facing a shortage of security forces and is trying to recruit more people to quell the protests.

There has been a lot of criticism of the violent action taken by the security forces against demonstrators for weeks.

Many people have been killed, dozens are wounded, and many people have been kidnapped by the regime’s security forces.

According to videos published on social media, security forces had recently shot at demonstrators again in many cities around the country. The regime has decided to apparently increase counter-pressure on demonstrators.

The Revolutionary Guard, an elite force known for cracking down on dissent and reporting directly to Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has not been officially deployed since the demonstrations began last month.

But videos and eyewitnesses suggest that the regime started to use the IRGC even before the warnings of its head Hossein Salami echoed by him in a meeting with pro-regime supporters last Saturday.

And this will escalate the situation even more. It is likely that the regime must choose between the devil and the deep blue sea.

Stepping back and allowing the people to continue their protests freely will encourage the people and more people will join the protests from all walks of life.

And increasing the pressure and suppression will double the people’s fury and the regime will face a more radicalized situation.

But it seems that the regime has chosen to increase its pressure. Now its forces are using live ammunition without restraint against students and people who are denouncing Khamenei.

In this struggle, universities have become the resisting bastions of the protests and are playing a major role in the protest movement, despite the regime’s heavy crackdowns against them in recent years.

The protests are now challenging the regime. Starting with the people’s objection to compulsory hijab but have now turned totally against the regime’s entirety.

Today, Monday, October 31, 2022, on the 46th day of the nationwide uprising of the Iranian people, protests, and strikes are still ongoing.

So far, nationwide demonstrations have been recorded in more than 206 cities with 450 martyrs and 25,000 arrests.

The names of 307 of these martyrs have been announced by the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK).
