U.S. Bill to Impose Terrorism-Related Sanctions Sparks Threats From Iran-Backed Iraqi Groups

INU - A bill entitled “Iranian Proxies Terrorist Sanctions Act of 2017,” was introduced on November 3rd, by the U.S. House of Representatives. It is reported to impose terrorism-related sanctions regarding Asa’ib Ahl al-Haq and Harakat al-Nujaba, each allegedly involved with Iraq’s Mobilization Forces (P.M.F.) and with the fighting in Syria under the leadership of Iranian Quds Force Commander, Qassem Soleimani.

 Last month, President of the United Stated Donald Trump decided not to recertify Iran’s compliance to the 2015 nuclear deal. Several leaders from the European Union called on Trump, before he made the announcement, to strongly consider his decision because if he decided to decertify Iran’s compliance, the deal could fall apart and the nuclear threat would be more dangerous than ever.
