Family of Esmail Fekri denied access to burial site as rights groups warn of rising arbitrary executions.
The Iranian regime has reportedly refused to hand over the body of Esmail Fekri, a political prisoner executed for alleged espionage and ties to Israel, demanding 150 million tomans from his family in exchange for disclosing the location of his burial. Fekri’s parents have been hospitalized due to emotional distress.
He was arrested in December 2023 and sentenced to death following a trial that lasted just ten minutes and lacked legal representation. Human rights organizations have denounced Iran’s judicial process for relying on forced confessions and bypassing fair trial standards.
Following Israeli strikes on Iran, the regime has executed at least two prisoners and detained hundreds more, prompting growing concerns about the risk of mass and arbitrary executions under new legislation pushed by Iran’s parliament.
