Iranian shipping industry warns of global economic fallout if regime retaliates in Persian Gulf
An article published by Javan, a newspaper affiliated with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), has sparked fresh concern about Iran regime’s potential response to the recent military conflict with Israel. Citing a member of Iran’s Chamber of Commerce and a shipping industry activist, the paper warned of possible regime action against maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz, a vital global oil route.
“If Iran decides to interfere with the passage of oil tankers through the Strait of Hormuz, Europe and America will be miserable,” the commerce member said. The article further emphasized that the continued escalation in the region could cause significant collateral damage globally, stating, “Even countries that have nothing to do with the Iran-Israel war will suffer losses from the continuation of this war.”
The paper added that the ongoing instability in the Middle East would inevitably drive up shipping and insurance costs for international trade, especially in energy markets. These threats have renewed fears of a possible Iranian blockade, a scenario that could disrupt global energy supplies and cause severe economic ripple effects.
