On October 15, the people of Iran and their organized Resistance lost Sir David Amess MP, one of the kindest, nicest, most gentle people in politics, as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom Boris Johnson portrayed him. According to eyewitnesses Sir David was stabbed multiple times during a constituency surgery in Belfairs Methodist Church in Leigh-on-Sea, Excess.

Essex Police said that a 25-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of murder and a knife had been recovered. “The fatal stabbing of Conservative MP Sir David Amess has been declared as a terrorist incident,” police stated, according to Sky News.

For decades, Sir David Amess did his best in the quest for a free and democratic Iran. He tirelessly supported the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) led by President-elect Maryam Rajavi.

“We Brits want the Iranian people to enjoy the same freedom that we do. And we have a very large number of Brits here to join forces with you in this cry to free Iran. Members of the House Commons, members of the House of Lords,” said Sir David at the Free Iran 2018 rally in Villepinte, a suburb of Paris, on June 30.

“We stand united with each and every one of you in your battle and I am sure that our message of free and democratic Iran will echo all the way to Tehran and other cities and towns across Iran shacking theocracy to its core,” he added.

At the time, he was a target of a foiled bomb attack orchestrated by senior Iranian diplomat Assadollah Assadi. However, he did not withdraw from supporting the Iranian people’s struggle despite the threats imposed by the world’s foremost state-sponsor of terrorism in Iran.

“David Amess was an enemy of dictators, especially the mullahs’ dictatorship in Iran. For forty years, he stood relentlessly with the Iranian people for freedom and against religious fascism,” said NCRI President-elect Maryam Rajavi in her statement.

“In his final speech to the 2021 Free Iran Gathering, Sir David Amess said, ‘We believe the missing piece in our policy is disregarding the objective conditions in Iran, and the yearning of the Iranian people for freedom and democracy,’” Mrs. Rajavi recalled.

As the co-chair of the British Committee for Iran Freedom (BCFIF), Sir David time and again attended and gave speeches at the Iranian opposition’s conferences. In June 2019, he participated in the Free Iran event at the home of the Mojahedin-e Khalq (MEK/PMOI), Ashraf 3, in Albania.

“I am extremely happy to be in Ashraf 3, and as the co-chair of British Parliamentary Committee for Iran Freedom and on behalf of the cross-party committee in both houses of Parliament, we want to express our solidarity with you,” said Sir David at the Free Iran 2019 gathering in Ashraf 3.

“Sir David met on many occasions with the president-elect of the NCRI, Mrs. Maryam Rajavi. He also led a strong, cross-party delegation of British MPs and Peers to several gatherings of the Iranian Resistance movement, NCRI, in Paris presenting statements of support for a free and democratic Iran signed by hundreds of parliamentarians,” said Rt Hon David Jones MP in a statement on behalf of the BCFIF.

Sir David Amess’ Murder Shocks Politicians

Furthermore, the killing of Sir David Amess severely shocked the country and prompted a wave of condolence and sympathy with his family, friends, and colleagues. Prime Minister Johnson and Labor leader Sir Keir Starmer laid flowers at the scene of Sir David’s murder.

“This is a dark and shocking day,” Sir Keir Starmer said in a statement. “The whole country will feel it acutely, perhaps the more so because we have, heartbreakingly, been here before.”

UK Home Secretary Priti Patel described Sir David, 69, as a “man of the people” who was “killed doing a job he loved.”

“This is the most devastating, horrific and tragic news,” former Conservative Prime Minister David Cameron tweeted. “David Amess was a kind and thoroughly decent man – and he was the most committed MP you could ever hope to meet. Words cannot adequately express the horror of what has happened today. Right now, my heart goes out to David’s family.”

“I am shocked and deeply distressed by the killing of Sir David Amess. Our thoughts and prayers are with David’s family, friends and colleagues,” said Speaker of the House of Commons Sir Lindsay Hoyle.

“I am so deeply, deeply saddened by the tragic news that Sir David has passed away. He loved being an MP and was a great public servant. It is just awful. My thoughts and prayers, and those of all Londoners, are with David’s loved ones at this time of unimaginable grief,” said London Mayor Sadiq Khan.

“Devastated to learn of Sir David Amess’ murder. A great man, a great friend, and a great MP killed while fulfilling his democratic role. My heart goes out to Julia, his family, and all who loved him. Let us remember him and what he did with his life,” added UK Health Secretary Sajid Javid.
