Following a second and binding ruling in a German court, the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung (FAZ) newspaper has accepted that its article about the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) was defamatory, which is an incredible legal and political victory for the group and the Resistance as a whole against the Iranian regime’s propaganda machine.

“German court ruling proves once again that the source of all lies and fake news against the Iranian resistance is the mullahs’ regime,” the Iranian opposition National Council of Resistance of Iran stated.

Of course, the regime will not give up its demonization campaign, which has long been how the regime prepares the ground for terrorism against the PMOI/MEK in order to suppress the Iranian people as a whole.

The lawyer who represented the PMOI/MEK’s parent group, the NCRI, in this case, Prof. Dr. Gero Himmelsbach, set out this timeline in a recent press conference:

  • March 2019: Hamburg district court banned Der Spiegel magazine from alleging torture in the Resistance headquarters in Albania. Spiegel accepted this.
  • May 2020: FAZ makes the same claims and the Hamburg Regional Court forbids this accusation. FAZ does not accept this and appeals.
  • November 2020: Resistance proves in court that torture allegations are unfounded and that the informants are Iranian Secret Service agents.

But these are far from the first allegations against the MEK, NCRI, or other Resistance groups that have been spread from regime agents to foreign media, lobbyists, or politicians.

The regime spends billions of dollars on a demonization campaign to pretend that the Iranian Resistance has no support inside Iran. They’re not even the first to be found false in court, so why does the regime keep making allegations that are so easy to disprove?

Because this is all they have. They need to destroy the Resistance and are getting increasingly desperate following the popular uprisings in 2017, 2018, 2019, and 2020.

They know that the Resistance helped organize these protests and that this very nearly overthrew the regime. They are scared and they have every reason to be.

So they resort to easily disprovable lies because they are trying to slow down the Resistance’s goal of regime change by tying them up in court fights, making their supporters scared to attend rallies, and making the international community believe that their best shot at stability is continuing the appeasement policy.

The continuation of the appeasement policy means more suffering for the people of Iran and ongoing terrorism by the regime and its proxies across the globe.
