Mohammad Mohaddessin urges international action as executions of PMOI members signal escalating repression and regime instability

Paris — April 1, 2026 — Mohammad Mohaddessin, head of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), has issued a stark warning about a renewed surge in political executions in Iran, describing the recent killing of members of the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) as a manifestation of deepening internal instability within the ruling system.

Speaking during an online press conference on Wednesday, Mohaddessin reported that four PMOI members were executed in recent days following extended periods of detention, during which they were allegedly subjected to torture. He further noted that additional detainees arrested in connection with a January uprising were also executed last week, indicating a broader pattern of escalating repression.

According to Mohaddessin, these executions may represent the early stages of a wider crackdown. He drew parallels to the 1988 mass executions of Iranian political prisoners, warning that the current trajectory could lead to a similar wave of mass killings unless urgent international measures are taken.

Highlighting the operational scope of PMOI-affiliated networks inside Iran, Mohaddessin pointed to a significant increase in anti-regime activities. Over the past year, the “Resistance Units” reportedly carried out more than 4,000 operations targeting repressive state apparatuses. During the most recent uprising, he said, hundreds of additional actions were conducted with the stated aim of countering security forces and safeguarding protesters.

He also referenced a major escalation earlier this year, describing a coordinated operation on February 23 in central Tehran targeting a key site associated with Ali Khamenei. According to his account, approximately 250 individuals were involved in the operation, with significant casualties and arrests reported among participants, while others managed to withdraw.

Citing remarks from Maryam Rajavi, the NCRI’s President-elect, Mohaddessin framed the executions as evidence of the regime’s growing fear in the face of mounting public anger and increasing support for organized resistance networks and the so-called Liberation Army.

He further warned that the risk to political prisoners remains acute. In addition to those already executed, Mohaddessin stated that death sentences for at least 15 other individuals have been upheld by Iran’s Supreme Court and could be carried out imminently. He added that many more detainees may soon face similar verdicts.

Despite mounting international and regional pressures, Mohaddessin argued that the Iranian leadership is prioritizing internal suppression over external engagement. He suggested that underlying social tensions remain unresolved and could trigger renewed unrest, particularly once current geopolitical conflicts subside.

Concluding his remarks, Mohaddessin called for decisive international action. He urged governments to sever diplomatic ties with Tehran, close Iranian embassies, expel regime representatives, and formally recognize both a provisional alternative government and the Iranian people’s right to resist and confront the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.

The press conference concluded with Mohaddessin taking questions from journalists, reiterating his warning that without immediate global intervention, Iran may be on the brink of a new phase of intensified repression.
