A hunger striker, affiliated to the Iranian dissidents in Camp Ashraf Iraq, was hospitalized in Geneva. Eleven others continue their hunger strike for a month at the Place des Nations, in front of the UN headquarters.
The hunger strikers, housed in a tent, say they will continue their movement until they obtain the release of the seven activists detained by the Iraqi authorities during the attack on Camp Ashraf, September 1.
This activist was hospitalized Tuesday and remains under observation at the Cantonal Hospital of Geneva, said a spokesman of the People’s Mojahedin (PMOI/MEK). “Some are very weak, they only drink water and tea,” she has said.
According to the Iranian opposition, the seven survivors of the attack against Camp Ashraf, in which 52 were killed opponents are held by the Iraqi authorities. They may be sent back to Iran.
International Solidarity
The UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) has unsuccessfully requested the Iraqi authorities to gain access to detainees, including six women.
UNHCR said that they are asylum seekers and they are protected by the Geneva Conventions.
Other supporters and family members of the Iranian opposition are a hunger strike in London, Berlin, and in Australia and Canada.Â
