As Tehran unleashes the deadliest wave of executions in decades, MEK activists escalate their operations nationwide, declaring that repression will only fuel uprising.

As Iran’s clerical regime intensifies its campaign of mass executions in a desperate bid to suppress dissent, its principal opposition, the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK), is meeting the brutality with defiance and determination. Across the country, MEK-affiliated Resistance Units are amplifying their actions, signaling that the regime’s violence will only deepen the people’s resolve for freedom.

Recent events in Zahedan, the capital of Sistan and Baluchestan province, underscore this growing defiance. On October 10, 2025, amid heavy security and repression, PMOI Resistance Units took to the streets to denounce the regime’s killing spree. They displayed banners and posters condemning the executions and calling for the overthrow of the ruling theocracy.

One of the banners read, “The response to the murder and execution of political prisoners is a fiery uprising,” while another declared, “Khamenei is trying in vain to prevent the people’s uprising and the overthrow of his regime with executions and massacres.”

These acts of resistance also reflected a clear political vision for Iran’s future — one free from both theocracy and monarchy. Slogans such as “A dictatorship is a dictatorship, whether with a turban or with a crown,” and “We want neither shah nor mullahs; we want freedom and a democratic republic,” captured the popular demand for a system grounded in democracy and the sovereignty of the people.

A Record-Breaking Surge in Executions

According to the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), the clerical regime executed at least 200 prisoners in September 2025 alone — the highest monthly total in 36 years. This number represents a 2.5-fold increase compared to September 2024 and a sevenfold increase from the same month in 2023.

The pace of killing continues to accelerate. In just the first nine months of 2025, the regime executed at least 1,200 people, already surpassing the 1,001 executions recorded in all of 2024.

The NCRI described this escalation as a manifestation of “the regime’s terror of an impending eruption of public outrage.” Far from being an act of confidence, the executions reveal a regime fearful of the growing influence of the organized resistance and the prospect of another nationwide uprising.

Targeting PMOI Supporters

The executions are not arbitrary but part of a deliberate campaign to eliminate supporters of the PMOI. Among the latest victims of this policy is Ehsan Faridi, a 22-year-old university student whose initial charge of “propaganda against the system” was later escalated to “corruption on earth,” a charge frequently used to justify political executions. His conviction was based entirely on coerced confessions obtained under intense psychological pressure.

Faridi’s case is part of a broader crackdown on PMOI supporters. Seventeen political prisoners affiliated with the organization currently face imminent execution.

Another high-profile case is that of Mohammad Javad Vafaei-Sani, a 30-year-old boxing champion and known PMOI supporter, whose death sentence was recently upheld despite having been twice overturned by Iran’s Supreme Court due to “numerous flaws.” The decision underscores the direct role of the regime’s security apparatus in manipulating the judiciary to silence dissent.

The Resistance Grows Stronger

While the regime seeks to crush opposition through terror, it is achieving the opposite. Each execution fuels greater defiance among Iran’s youth and Resistance Units.

As Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, President-elect of the NCRI, noted, “The regime is trying to prevent uprisings with greater brutality — but young people’s resolve for regime change only grows stronger.”

From Zahedan to Tehran, the Resistance Units’ courage and persistence show that the Iranian people refuse to be silenced. Their banners and slogans carry a singular message: the path forward is one of freedom, democracy, and the end of all forms of dictatorship.
