Insider news & Analysis in Iran

VIENNA (Reuters) - The U.N.'s nuclear watchdog appears no closer to finding out what happened at a military site at the center of its investigation into suspected atom bomb research by Iran, despite signs Tehran is becoming more cooperative.

The prideful attitude that so many Iranian officials have towards their missile programs may spell trouble for nuclear negotiations between the Islamic theocracy and the P5+1. The timeframe for the International Atomic Energy Authority’s assessment of Iran’s former nuclear efforts may also present an obstacle to the deal.

Daily Caller - Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, all but said on Sunday that negotiations over the country’s illicit nuclear program are over and that the Islamic Republic’s ideals include destroying America.

Iran’s cultural isolation apparently showed through at the latest round of talks over its nuclear program. Its refusal to cooperate may suggest changes in direction from both sides of the negotiating table. For its part, the United States is reportedly considering the possibility of bilateral talks that would temporarily circumvent the rest of the P5+1, according to the Wall Street Journal.

(Reuters) - Russia plans to sign a contract with Iran this year to build two more nuclear reactors at its Bushehr power plant as part of a broader deal for up to eight reactors in the Islamic state, a source close to the negotiations told Reuters on Thursday.

Reuters: The UN nuclear watchdog sought in talks with Iran on Tuesday to advance a long-stalled investigation into Tehran's atomic activities, but it was not immediately clear whether any headway was made.
