French FM says European powers ready to reimpose full sanctions if regime continues defiance

In an interview with Le Monde, French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot delivered a stark warning to Tehran, urging cooperation with international nuclear oversight or face the consequences. Barrot revealed that France, along with Germany and Britain, is prepared to activate the so-called “trigger mechanism” if Iran refuses to return to compliance with the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

“We have very powerful leverage,” Barrot stated. “Just by sending an official letter, we can restore the global embargo on arms, nuclear equipment, banking, and insurance against Iran, which was lifted 10 years ago.”

The warning comes amid heightened tensions following the Iranian regime’s suspension of cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and its refusal to resume nuclear negotiations. The activation of the trigger mechanism would mark a full diplomatic breakdown and likely lead to the restoration of all previous United Nations sanctions against the Iranian regime.
