Political prisoner Parisa Kamali, speaking from Yazd Central Prison, commemorated the 61st anniversary of the founding of the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK), describing its six decades of struggle as a path of sacrifice, perseverance, and commitment to freedom and justice.
Political prisoner Parisa Kamali, imprisoned in Yazd Central Prison, has issued a message marking the 61st anniversary of the founding of the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK), congratulating freedom-seekers and supporters of democratic change on the occasion.
Her message was issued as political prisoners and supporters of the Resistance in Tabriz and Karaj also marked the anniversary through symbolic acts, including the presentation of flowers honoring the organization’s founders and its decades of resistance.
“Standing on the right side of history”
In her message from prison, Kamali attributed her commitment to freedom and resistance to the MEK and its history.
“If today I am standing on the right side of history, I owe it to the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran,” she said, referring to the organization founded on September 6, 1965 (15 Shahrivar 1344) by Mohammad Hanifnejad, Saeed Mohsen, and Asghar Badizadegan.
She also credited Massoud Rajavi with preserving the organization through successive periods of repression and ensuring the continuation of its struggle.
Kamali described the anniversary as a significant occasion, portraying the organization’s 61-year history as one defined by resistance to dictatorship, sacrifice, and an enduring commitment to freedom.
“What a blessed day this is,” she wrote, describing the MEK as an organization built on the principles of “truth and sacrifice” and saying that, throughout its decades-long struggle, it had confronted dictatorship in both its monarchical and clerical forms.
She characterized this history as a path toward freedom, justice, and a prosperous Iran, while emphasizing the sacrifices made by those who continued the struggle.
A message from behind prison walls
Kamali’s message carried particular significance because it was issued from inside Yazd Central Prison, where she remains imprisoned.
She described the MEK as the organization that “opened my eyes to the realities” and gave her hope, adding that she considers its ideals inseparable from her own identity and commitment.
“I call out its name in every drop of my blood and with every particle of my being,” she wrote, expressing her continued adherence to the organization’s principles despite imprisonment.
Her statement concluded with a congratulatory message to those committed to freedom and independent thought:
“May September 6, the anniversary of the founding of the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran, be celebrated by all awakened consciences and freedom-loving and free-thinking people.”
Commemorations in Tabriz and Karaj
The anniversary was also marked by political prisoners and supporters of the Resistance in other Iranian cities.
In Tabriz, on September 2 (11 Shahrivar), political prisoners supporting the MEK presented a floral wreath featuring an image of Mohammad Hanifnejad and the inscription “61 Years of Boundless Sacrifice.”
In Karaj, also on September 2, political prisoners supporting the Resistance presented a basket of flowers featuring images of the organization’s founders and carrying the slogan “61 Years of Perseverance.”
The simultaneous commemorations in different cities, together with Kamali’s message from prison, underscored the continued political significance that MEK supporters attach to the organization’s history and its decades-long opposition to dictatorship in Iran.
For Kamali, the anniversary was not simply a commemoration of the past. From inside prison, she presented it as an affirmation of a continuing struggle for freedom, justice, and a democratic future for Iran.
