Cuneo city council Democratic Party leader Claudia Carli, ANPI Vice President Lanzo Roggero, and Margarita Deputy Mayor Dario Liguori reaffirm solidarity with the Iranian people, calling for an end to dictatorship, executions, and violence.

Italian local officials and representatives of Italy’s anti-fascist movement have expressed strong solidarity with the Iranian people and their struggle for freedom, democracy, and social justice. Speaking in interviews following a gathering in Italy, Claudia Carli, Lanzo Roggero, and Dario Liguori highlighted the importance of exposing the situation in Iran, defending human rights, and maintaining solidarity with those resisting dictatorship.

Their statements underscored a shared message: freedom and democracy require sustained commitment, while the Iranian people deserve a future free from executions, violence, and authoritarian rule.

Claudia Carli: Standing alongside Iran’s resistance is an honor for Cuneo

Claudia Carli, leader of the Democratic Party group on the Cuneo City Council in Italy, emphasized the importance of public gatherings and awareness-raising initiatives in bringing the realities of repression in Iran to international attention.

She said such events help expose what is actually happening under the regime’s crackdown and clarify the objectives for which the Iranian people have been struggling for years.

Carli described standing alongside the Iranian resistance as a source of great pride for both her and the city of Cuneo. She stressed that the struggle must continue shoulder to shoulder with the Iranian people until human rights, civil liberties, and political rights are guaranteed to everyone.

She concluded by reaffirming her message of perseverance and continued resistance, conveying what she described as the profound solidarity of people who stand with the Iranian cause more firmly than ever.

Lanzo Roggero: Democracy must be defended every day

Lanzo Roggero, Vice President of the Cuneo branch of the National Association of Italian Partisans (ANPI), also highlighted the importance of informing the international community about the situation in Iran.

Drawing on Italy’s historical experience with fascism and authoritarianism, Roggero warned about the dangers of authoritarian nationalism emerging under the appearance of formal democracy. He described such developments as deeply alarming and emphasized the importance of recognizing and confronting them.

Roggero sent the Iranian people a message of profound solidarity, expressing hope for a future founded on social justice. He stressed that social justice is essential to achieving freedom and that freedom, once secured, must be defended continuously.

Referring to the Italian experience of resistance to fascism and chauvinist authoritarianism, he emphasized that democracy cannot be taken for granted or treated as a permanent achievement.

Instead, he argued, democracy must be sustained through continuous, concrete action in defense of civil and social rights.

His message carried a particular significance for the Iranian people: the struggle for freedom does not end with the removal of an authoritarian system. Building and protecting a democratic society requires persistent public engagement and vigilance.

Dario Liguori: Iran must be free from executions and dictatorship

Dario Liguori, Deputy Mayor of the Italian city of Margarita, expressed solidarity with the Iranian people and called for a future in which Iran is free from executions, violence, and dictatorship.

He said Iran deserves to become a free country like other nations, without repression and authoritarian rule.

Liguori emphasized that dictatorship must come to an end and expressed confidence in the Iranian people’s right to freedom.

He concluded by declaring Italy’s deep solidarity with the people of Iran.

A common message of solidarity and democratic freedom

The three statements reflect support from different levels of Italian civic and political life, including local government representatives and an organization rooted in Italy’s anti-fascist resistance tradition.

While approaching the issue from different perspectives, Carli, Roggero, and Liguori converged on several fundamental principles: the defense of human rights, the rejection of dictatorship and violence, and the need for sustained solidarity with the Iranian people.

Their remarks also highlighted a broader lesson drawn from Italy’s own history: democracy is not self-sustaining. It depends on the continued defense of fundamental freedoms, civil rights, and social justice.

For Iranians confronting repression and struggling for a democratic future, these expressions of international solidarity reinforce the importance of keeping their demands for freedom and fundamental rights at the center of international attention.
