There is no real evidence to suggest that Trump has changed his mind on Iran; in fact, he seems as set on a firm policy as ever.
Rezaian, who described the democratic resistance in Iran, the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI, Mujahedin-e Khalq or MEK), as “cult-like”, has taken his views straight from the mouths of the mullahs.
How could he possibly know about the support that the MEK receives in Iran when the group is banned and membership could result in execution?
It does not make sense to take a Regime that wants all MEK members dead as your sole source. For over 50 years, the MEK has survived because so many of their compatriots were willing to lay down their lives for freedom, a feeling that should resonate with Americans.
Even the Regime have begun to admit the MEK’s support inside Iran, especially during the 2018 uprising that engulfed 160 cities in Iran, for which Regime President Hassan Rouhani and Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei have blamed the MEK as organising the protests.
The intelligence minister said in April that the regime had arrested 116 MEK-affiliated teams. This gives a more realistic assessment of the MEK’s support in Iran.
Outside Iran, tens of thousands of MEK supporters held major rallies in five major European capitals, Paris, Brussels, Berlin, Stockholm, London and in Washington, DC to call for regime change and support the MEK in their quest to bring freedom to Iran.
Of course, Rezaian could not possibly give an objective assessment of the MEK in Iran. His previous articles are biased towards the Regime and its suppressive forces, which explains his hostility towards the MEK. (The Regime uses anti-MEK propaganda to demonise the group and justify their mistreatment of them.)
He claimed that former American officials have been paid by the MEK to advocate for them.
Shahin Gobadi, MEK Press Spokesman, wrote: “Nothing is further from the truth… In 2012, the Treasury Department launched an investigation into Iranian-American citizens who, in exercising their first amendment rights, had organized different conferences and seminars in which former US officials spoke.
After more than a year of investigation, the Department sent letters to the communities, informing them that it had completed its review of the case and that no laws had been violated.”
The Iranian Regime is no longer able to put off their overthrow by relying on appeasement. They cannot reform so they will be removed. The only response from the West should be firm pressure on the Regime.
