According to the regime’s Judiciary Mizan news agency, authorities hanged Mohsen Shekari, 23, this morning. “Mohsen Shekari, a ‘rioter’ who blocked Tehran’s Sattarkhan street and injured one of the security agents on September 25, was executed today morning,” Mizan wrote.

The execution comes as other detainees also face the possibility of the death penalty for their involvement in the protests, which began following Mahsa Amini’s heinous death in police custody in mid-September. Observers believe that this series of demonstrations is the most serious challenge to the regime since 1979.

Notably, the regime has yet to be able to quell protests after more than three months. Instead, the anti-regime activities have expanded and engulfed hundreds of cities across Iran.

“No longer call it protests; it has become a revolution,” protesters chant beside other slogans against supreme leader Ali Khamenei and Revolutionary Guards, showing their determination to overthrow the theocracy.

Activists say this is the regime’s last instrument for intimidating protesters. However, it fueled public anger and hatred against the entire regime. “How did you kill a young man for blocking a street while you deny trying those who killed hundreds of citizens in Zahedan?” a netizen posted referring to the regime’s mass killing of worshippers in Zahedan on September 30.

“We are hating [the regime officials] and what they represent,” another netizen wrote.

“We will turn the streets into hell for [regime forces] today,” another one posted. “This kid sacrificed his life for a better future for all of us.”

“The criminal regime banned Mohsen Shekari from tasting freedom,” another one wrote. “We neither forget nor forgive.”

“They hanged Mohsen without a fear and transparent trial,” another one posted. “We don’t let his death go in vain.”

Mohsen Shekari Is One of 40 Who Face Death Sentences

Notably, Mohsen Shekari is one of 40 detained citizens who had been tried for so-called Moharebeh (waging war against God) charges.

According to rights activists, Mohsen Shekari’s death sentence was issued by “judge” Amuzadeh within 18 days. People also identified Behruz Hassani Etemad as the Tehran prosecutor’s representative. They provided further details about Hassani Etemad.
