filmmakers, and musicians. Not to mention the fact that a better-educated public is better informed when it comes to political matters.

However, the Iranian Regime doesn’t care about that. They see education as a privilege for the elite and are doing all they can to stop the poor from accessing it. That’s why the mullahs:
• defund schools – to pour more money into their malign military and terrorist actions
• cut English lessons – to prevent the average Iranian from knowing what the rest of the world is saying
• don’t pay public school teachers – to encourage them to quit and further jeopardise the learning of poorer students

Maryam Rajavi wants a better education system
In comparison, Maryam Rajavi, the leader of the Iranian Resistance, supports an advanced and free education system that provides a fantastic standard of learning for each child, no matter how much money their family has. She would also end lessons that attempted to promote any religion, political ideology, race, or gender over others.

Back in 2013, Maryam Rajavi said: “Tomorrow’s Iran needs an advanced education system which would be mandatory and free for all children of Iran. Such a system must be free of any political and cultural subjugation and promote political participation of all citizens.”

Maryam Rajavi also advocated for democratic higher education, which would allow for universities to remain independent of the Iranian government and be permitted to teach the subjects that it sees fit too. Maryam Rajavi would also end the practice of religious or ethnic minorities in Iran being turned away from universities when they’ve passed the entrance exam; something that is commonplace under the Iranian Regime.

Physical education
Maryam Rajavi also wants physical education to be taught to all young people, regardless of gender. Currently, the Iranian Regime prevents women and girls from participating in various athletic fields, which means that Iran has fewer female athletes to cheer on at any major sporting event, but more importantly that millions of little girls are not receiving the physical, social, and psychological benefits of exercise.

Maryam Rajavi wants children and young people to enjoy free and indiscriminate access to sports lessons and facilities across the country.

Supporting the teachers
In recent weeks, teachers across Iran have gone on strike and Maryam Rajavi has made numerous statement in support of their legitimate protests.
Last month, Maryam Rajavi said: “The catastrophic situation of the employed and retired teachers is the product of the repressive policies of the anti-cultural regime of the mullahs, and as long as this regime is in power, it will even get worse.”

But this is far from the first time that she has supported the demands of the Iranian Regime. During that same speech in 2013, she voiced supports the most important demands of the Iranian teachers, including the recognition of their rights to form a union and protest, the release from prison of teachers’ activists, and the provision of student’s rights.

Five years on and the teachers are still making the same demands. As Maryam Rajavi said things will only get worse under the Iranian Regime.
