Washington, D.C. – March 8, 2025
On Saturday, thousands of Iranian Americans, human rights advocates, and supporters gathered in Washington, D.C., for a large-scale demonstration calling for a free Iran. The “Free Iran Rally,” organized by the Organization of Iranian American Communities (OIAC), took place amid increasing calls for regime change in Iran.

The demonstration began at 1 p.m. at the Capitol Reflecting Pool, where participants voiced their support for democracy and human rights in Iran. The march continued at 2:30 p.m. toward the White House, amplifying the message that the Iranian people have the right to determine their own future.

OIAC emphasized the urgency of their demands, calling on the U.S. government to fully enforce maximum pressure policies against the Iranian regime and to recognize the Iranian people’s right to overthrow it. This demand aligns with H. Res. 166, a resolution supported by over 150 bipartisan lawmakers, which acknowledges the Iranian people’s struggle for freedom and democracy.

The timing of the rally was particularly significant, coinciding with International Women’s Day. Organizers used the occasion to highlight the Iranian regime’s long-standing oppression of women, underscoring the resilience and courage of Iranian women who have been at the forefront of protests against the regime.

“This is a fight for justice, for human dignity, for a future where Iranian women and men can live without fear,” OIAC officials said in a statement. “March 8 is a day of resistance, a day of hope. Let’s stand together and demand a free Iran.”

The demonstration reflected a growing movement among Iranian Americans and international human rights advocates who seek global support for the Iranian people’s fight for democracy. With continued protests and international pressure, supporters hope that the dream of a free Iran will soon become a reality.
