Tehran’s corrupt policies and discriminatory rule turn Baluchistan’s natural wealth into a source of poverty, repression, and environmental destruction

Regime Exploitation and Injustice Drive Baluch Workers to Protest at Taftan Gold Mine

On September 27, 2025, Baluch workers at the Taftan gold mine in southeastern Iran raised their voices against exploitation and systemic injustice. The mine, which could have brought development and employment to one of the country’s most deprived regions, has instead become a symbol of state-sanctioned discrimination and corruption.

Local miners say they have been turned into a cheap, disposable workforce while regime-affiliated managers and contractors pocket enormous profits. According to reports, when workers protested the poor conditions, a senior HR officer from the regime-linked Pars Tamin contracting company cynically told them, “Even your base salary is more than you deserve.” Such remarks reveal the deep contempt and racist attitude the ruling establishment holds toward the Baluch people.

Corruption and Exclusion: A System Built to Exploit

The mine’s workers accuse senior officials and regime-connected executives of running a closed network of corruption that keeps management and high-paying positions in the hands of outsiders. Locals are systematically excluded from meaningful employment, while only low-wage, unsafe, and temporary jobs are available to them.

Government officials—including the Taftan governor, the Khāsh MP, and the regional labor office—have been accused of colluding with these networks. Instead of defending the rights of the local population, they have reportedly received benefits and privileges in exchange for silence and complicity. This institutional corruption and the resulting social injustice have deepened the gap between the people and the regime.

Gold That Brings Only Poverty and Pollution

Beyond the economic exploitation, residents have also condemned the environmental destruction caused by the mine’s operations. Mining activities have severely depleted water resources, damaged the fragile ecosystem, and endangered the livelihoods of farmers and herders. While the regime and its cronies enrich themselves from Taftan’s gold, local communities are left with pollution, disease, and worsening poverty.

The people of Taftan and Baluchistan view the mine not as a blessing but as a curse—another reminder that under the regime’s rule, even natural wealth becomes a tool of repression and deprivation.

Voices of Resistance: The Fight for Justice Continues

Despite intimidation, the miners and residents have repeatedly protested, demanding justice and an end to discrimination. Their cries, however, are met with threats and suppression. The regime’s exploitative system continues to strip the region of both its resources and its dignity.

The plight of Baluch workers at the Taftan mine reflects a broader truth: as long as the ruling regime remains in power, not only the lives of the Iranian people but also the country’s soil, water, and future will continue to be sacrificed to corruption and tyranny.

The voice of Baluchistan’s workers is not merely a cry of despair—it is a call for resistance, justice, and freedom that echoes across Iran.
