Major democracies denounce Tehran’s campaigns of intimidation, cyberattacks, and violence abroad, pledging joint action to protect sovereignty and citizens.
G7 and Allies Unite Against Iranian Threats
On September 12, 2025, the members of the G7 Rapid Response Mechanism (RRM)—Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, the United States, and the European Union—along with associate members Australia and New Zealand, issued a strong joint statement condemning Iran regime’s campaign of transnational repression and malign activities.
The statement declared:
“According to those statements, Iranian intelligence services have increasingly attempted to kill, kidnap, and harass political opponents abroad, following a disturbing and unacceptable pattern of transnational repression, and clearly undermining state sovereignty. Other malign activities include operations to obtain and disclose the personal information of journalists and attacks designed to divide societies and intimidate Jewish communities.”
The G7 emphasized solidarity with international partners, underscoring its mission to safeguard sovereignty and defend individuals against foreign governments that seek to intimidate or silence them.
International Consensus: Growing Alarm Over Iran Regime’s Activities
The G7 statement builds on a wave of coordinated international responses in recent months:
Joint European-North American Statement (July 31, 2025)
Fourteen governments—including Albania, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Czechia, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Spain, Sweden, the UK, and the US—condemned what they described as a rising tide of Iranian state threats.
Their declaration warned:
“We are united in our opposition to the attempts of Iranian intelligence services to kill, kidnap, and harass people in Europe and North America in clear violation of our sovereignty. These services are increasingly collaborating with international criminal organisations to target journalists, dissidents, Jewish citizens, and current and former officials.”
The statement called on Tehran to immediately halt such activities.
Australia’s Response to Iranian Attacks (August 26, 2025)
In one of the most dramatic revelations, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and senior ministers announced that credible intelligence showed Iran regime’s directed at least two antisemitic attacks on Australian soil.
These incidents included the October 20, 2023 attack on Lewis’ Continental Kitchen in Sydney and the December 6, 2023 attack on the Adass Israel Synagogue in Melbourne.
Albanese described the acts as:
“Extraordinary and dangerous acts of aggression orchestrated by a foreign nation on Australian soil. This is an attack on our society, aimed at creating fear, stoking internal divisions, and eroding social cohesion.”
In response, Australia expelled four Iranian diplomats, suspended operations at its Tehran embassy, and announced plans to designate Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a terrorist organization.
New Zealand’s Condemnation
New Zealand’s Foreign Minister Winston Peters expressed solidarity with Australia, tweeting on August 26:
“New Zealand unequivocally condemns Iran’s actions, including through proxies, in Gaza, the Red Sea and around the Middle East and the world. State-sponsored attacks designed to sow discord are completely unacceptable.”
He confirmed that Wellington had summoned the Iranian ambassador to convey its concerns directly.
New Zealand is gravely concerned to learn of Australia’s announcement on Iran’s role in antisemitic attacks against the Australian Jewish community.

A Coordinated Defense Against Transnational Repression
With mounting evidence of Iran regime’s operations abroad—ranging from cyberattacks and assassination attempts to intimidation of Jewish communities—the G7 and its partners are positioning themselves for more robust collective action.
The G7 RRM pledged to build on the recent G7 Leaders’ Statement on Transnational Repression, reaffirming:
“We will continue to safeguard our sovereignty, keep our communities safe, and defend individuals from the overreach of foreign governments trying to silence, intimidate, harass, harm or coerce them within our borders.”
The escalation of unified statements signals that Western democracies are preparing not only to condemn but also to counter Tehran’s global campaigns with coordinated measures.
