With each passing hour of the escalating conflict between Iran and Israel, a pressing question grows louder in the hearts of Iranians who yearn for freedom and sovereignty: What is the solution for Iran? Could this war have been avoided? Was it inevitable?
This question is not new. It has lingered in the collective conscience of the Iranian people for over four decades—ever since 1979, when Ruhollah Khomeini hijacked the revolution and established the absolute rule of the Supreme Leader under the doctrine of Velayat-e-Faqih. From that moment forward, he systematically dismantled the people’s right to self-determination, suppressed fundamental freedoms, and turned Iran into a base for exporting extremism and terrorism.
Khomeini’s personal war—what he cynically called the “War of Divine Blessing” and “Sacred Defense”—saw the eight-year Iran-Iraq war become a tool for consolidating internal repression. His regime shut down free press, outlawed independent thought, and filled prisons with dissidents. Iran’s youth—its most hopeful and freedom-loving generation—were executed en masse, their graves paving the cemeteries of a silenced nation. At the same time, the regime launched an international campaign of terror under the guise of “exporting the revolution,” which in reality meant spreading the regime’s dangerous, theocratic ideology.
From that time to the present, successive leaders of the Islamic Republic have imposed coercive policies on every aspect of life—from mandatory dress codes and enforced religious dogma to a ruthless security apparatus that tramples on the most basic rights of the Iranian people. Today, the regime has reached a new extreme: it is using the Iranian people as human shields in pursuit of nuclear weapons, drawing foreign war directly onto Iranian soil.
Against this bitter backdrop, the Iranian people are once again forced to ask: What is the path forward? What is the true solution for Iran? How did the country that once carried the hopes of millions for democracy, security, and prosperity become a launchpad for foreign aggression and domestic tyranny?
Today, amid yet another unpatriotic war imposed by the regime, international attention is once again turning toward what has become known as the Iranian solution. One truth is now clearer than ever: the Middle East—and indeed the world—will not know peace as long as this regime remains in power. Whether or not it possesses nuclear weapons, the regime is the root cause of regional instability, war, and repression.
It is time for the international community to support a real and practical solution—one that is Iranian in its origin, democratic in its nature, and viable in its execution. This solution has been presented clearly and consistently by Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, the President-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI). On June 18, 2025, in a landmark speech at the European Parliament in Strasbourg, she declared:
“THE ONLY VIABLE SOLUTION REMAINS THE OVERTHROW OF THIS REGIME BY THE PEOPLE OF IRAN AND THE IRANIAN RESISTANCE.TWENTY-ONE YEARS AGO, I STOOD IN THIS VERY PARLIAMENT AND DECLARED THAT THE SOLUTION FOR IRAN LIES NEITHER IN APPEASEMENT NOR IN WAR, BUT IN A THIRD OPTION: REGIME CHANGE BY THE PEOPLE OF IRAN AND THE ORGANIZED RESISTANCE. I WARNED THAT ‘THE POLICY OF APPEASEMENT ENCOURAGES THE CLERICAL REGIME TO PERSIST IN ITS POLICIES AND, ULTIMATELY, IMPOSES WAR UPON WESTERN NATIONS.
’I SAID: ‘LET US NOT ALLOW THE MUNICH EXPERIENCE TO BE REPEATED—WITH CLERICS ARMED WITH NUCLEAR BOMBS.’AND TODAY, WE SEE THAT APPEASEMENT HAS INDEED LED TO THE IMPOSITION OF WAR. ONCE AGAIN, I EMPHASIZE: LASTING PEACE AND SECURITY IN THIS PART OF THE WORLD REQUIRE REGIME CHANGE IN IRAN, BROUGHT ABOUT BY THE PEOPLE OF IRAN AND THE IRANIAN RESISTANCE.
AN ALTERNATIVE CANNOT BE IMPOSED FROM ABOVE, AS WAS DONE A CENTURY AGO WHEN BRITAIN INSTALLED A MONARCH BY APPOINTMENT. NOR CAN IT BE FORCED UPON THE PEOPLE LIKE THE 1953 COUP D’ÉTAT BY THE UNITED STATES AGAINST THE NATIONALIST GOVERNMENT OF DR. MOSSADEGH, THROUGH REPRESSION, EXECUTIONS, AND TORTURE.THAT IS PRECISELY WHY WE SAY: NEITHER THE SHAH NOR THE MULLAHS — THE PEOPLE OF IRAN WILL ACCEPT NO FORM OF DICTATORSHIP AND DEMAND FREEDOM.”
The Iranian people have paid an unimaginable price over the past 45 years. They have faced bullets, prison walls, censorship, and international betrayal. Yet, they have not given up. They continue to fight for a democratic republic where sovereignty belongs to the people—not monarchs or mullahs.
Now, more than ever, the world must stand with the people of Iran and support their legitimate demand for regime change. Not through foreign intervention, and not through appeasement—but by empowering a democratic, organized resistance and recognizing the Iranian people’s right to shape their own future.
This is not just Iran’s fight. It is a fight for peace and security in the Middle East and the world.
