According to the recorded news and statistics, at least 161 protests took place in August 2022 by the Iranian people in many provinces and cities across the country. It is also worth mentioning that the decrease in the number of protests is related to the latest floods, the excessive heat in many provinces, and the closure of schools and universities.

The statistics of the protests are as follows:

Often, the people have targeted the major regime officials in their protests. They chanted slogans against the regime’s president Ebrahim Raisi, the parliament speaker Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf, and Mohammad Mokhber, Raisi’s first deputy, because of the miserable living conditions and the delay in the payment of their wages. In the protests, the presence of women has been significant.

Some of the major protests over the past month:

On August 25, the people of Shahrekord demonstrated for 9 days because of the lack of water in the area.

On August 23, for 3 consecutive days, the people of Hamedan also demonstrated to protest the water shortage. Even hospitals and surgery rooms are suffering from a lack of clean water. In these protests, the people resisted the regime’s repressive forces, despite threats that they would be arrested.

On 17 August, the farmers of Isfahan gathered in front of the city’s Regional Water Administration for 3 days in a row to protest the lack of water for cultivation.

Other cities and villages protesting the lack of water include: Shahchob village in Dehgolan; Benaf village in Kazroon; Qara Hasnauli in Urmia; Mansoura village in Shadgan; Mahdavi Street area in Urmia; Yazdkan village in Bazfat; Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari province; Chahor; and finally, Ahvaz.

The people of Shadgan, Hendijan, Shushtar, Bagh Melek, Sidon, and Khamat villages in Shush protested the ongoing power shortages.

From August 6 to 14, social security organization pensioners gathered in Ahvaz, Arak, Ardabil, Tehran, Arak, Isfahan, Shush, Sushtar, Dezful, Babol, Kerman, Khoramabad, Bojnurd, and Rasht, to demand their delayed wages. They also attacked the regime’s officials for corruption, destructive policies, embezzlement, and refusal to address their demands to improve their living conditions. Their lives have been destroyed due to rising inflation, skyrocketing prices, etc.

Last month, the workers of the Setare Taraz Company at the Asaluyeh Petrochemical Site 1, contractors of the Rahimi piping project in Mashhad Ferdowsi Power Plant, and the workers of the Aram Pars Company working in Hengam Petrochemical, protested in regards to their poor working conditions and wages.

The municipality workers in Rudbar, Asalem, Gohardashat, Kutabdollah, Sanandaj, and Yasuj, also gathered due to their delayed wages.

Landowners in the Suhank and Moradabad region of Tehran; Daneshvaran county of Tabriz; Tehran’s Golestan; Tabriz’s Khavaran neighborhood; Maskan-e Meli Fatemieh in Yazd; remittance holders of the Amir al-Momenin fund in Rostamkola; Asmalian Bushehr cooperative members; Maskan-e Meli applicants in Ahvaz; and owners of 30 welfare units in Sadi of Khuzestan, gathered due to contracts that had not been fully implemented.

Regional electricity operators of Bandar Abbas, Ahvaz, Tabriz, and Zanjan, protested about the failure to increase their salaries. An 11-day strike by the workers of the sugarcane cultivation and industry of Karun in Shushtar was in protest of their demands not being met, as was a 4-day strike by the workers of Exin Steel Pars Company in Rafsanjan.

Many truck drivers protested due to varying situations of the drivers in East Azerbaijan not receiving permission to cross the border of Iran into Armenia. Truck drivers working in Qorveh mines protested the fare they had received, while drivers in Sirik protested the implementation of the Sipad project and the coding of fuel cards.

Truck drivers at Bazargan customs protested about the problems with the electronic customs system. Truck drivers of Kermanshah province protested the increase in fuel and truck spare parts, and drivers of the Haraz axis protested the continuous closures in the area.
