On Thursday, November 24, 2022, the United Nations Human Rights Council decided to create a new fact-finding mission to investigate human rights violations in Iran. In its 35th special session, 25 state members of the council voted for the establishment of a fact-finding mission on Iran.

“It pains me to see what is happening in the country. The image of children killed, women beaten in the streets, people sentenced to death,” said UN Human Rights Council chief Volker Türk. “We’re now in a full-fledged human rights crisis.”

“I’d like to reiterate the call issued by UN Special Procedures mandates holders on the UN Human Rights Council to fulfill its duty, hear prolonged cries of victims for accountability and establish an international independent investigative mechanism,” said Mr. Javaid Rehman, the UN Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Iran.

“We welcome the formation of an International fact-finding mission. It is very necessary to visit the open and secret prisons in Iran, particularly the prisons of the Ministry of Intelligence and the State Security Force,” said Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, the President-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran.

Citizens and merchants in Tehran, Mashhad, Urmia, Mahabad, Ilam, Qorveh, Divandarreh, Saqqez, Kamyaran, Sanandaj, Marivan, Javanrud, Ravansar, Naqadeh, Baneh, Bukan, Piranshahr, Sardasht, Kermanshah, Abdanan, Sar Pol-e Zahab, Oshnavieh, Dehgolan, Semirom, and Bushehr go on strike in support of Kurdish cities on November 24.

Citizens in Kamyaran, Tehran, Sar Pol-e Zahab, and Khorramabad turned commemoration ceremonies into revolutionary momentums against the entire regime. Families of detained citizens again rallied outside the notorious Evin Prison in Tehran, seeking the whereabouts of their loved ones.

November 24 marked the 70th day of anti-regime protests in Iran. The demonstrations began following the heinous murder of Mahsa Amini, 22, in police custody. However, it immediately turned into a revolution against the entire theocratic regime.

According to the Iranian opposition Mojahedin-e Khalq (MEK/PMOI), the protests have extended to 252 cities. The regime has killed more than 660 citizens, injured tens of thousands, and detained over 30,000. The MEK has published the names of 516 killed protesters.
