Republican Senator Lindsey Graham has introduced two new plans to the US Senate aimed at holding the Iranian regime accountable for its actions in the Middle East and its nuclear program.

The first plan addresses Hezbollah’s recent attack on Majdal Shams, while the second focuses on intelligence assessments regarding Tehran’s ongoing efforts to enrich uranium to weapons-grade levels.

In response to Israel’s recent strikes against Hezbollah and Hamas leaders in Beirut and Tehran, Graham asserted that Israel has the right to target terrorist leaders and planners who are committed to the destruction of the Jewish state, regardless of time or place.

The senator emphasized his intention to increase pressure on Israel’s enemies, particularly the Iranian regime, due to rising tensions in the Middle East. One of the proposed plans states that any escalation of Hezbollah’s actions against Israel resulting in a major conflict should be considered an attack by Iran’s regime. Graham suggests that both Israel and the United States should hold Iran’s regime responsible for such escalations and respond by targeting critical facilities that finance terrorism, including refineries.

Graham expressed his belief that it is time for the world to stop playing games with Hamas, Hezbollah, and the Iranian regime.

The second plan relates to intelligence assessments about Tehran’s continued efforts to produce weapons-grade enriched uranium. This law would be triggered when the president determines that the Iranian regime has enriched sufficient uranium to build a nuclear weapon for use against Israel or other US allies. The bill would require Senate approval for the use of US military force to halt Iran regime’s nuclear development.

Senator Graham has long advocated for economic isolation as an effective means to counter Iran regime’s increasing attacks on US interests. In early July, following discussions with former President Donald Trump, Graham proposed a legal plan to impose tariffs on countries purchasing oil products from the Iranian regime. He argued that those supporting the Iranian regime should face consequences, with tariffs on goods entering the United States being an appropriate measure.

Criticizing the Biden administration’s response to attacks by Iran-affiliated militias, Graham suggested targeting something of “value” to the Iranian regime. He proposed striking Iran regime’s oil infrastructure, specifically mentioning the country’s four refineries visible from space, and claimed that destroying one would be sufficient to end the conflict.

US Republicans have consistently accused the Biden administration of appeasement towards Iran in recent years.
