RELIGION AND FLOGGINGS

By Iran News Update Staff

The National Council of Resistance of Iran highlights recent legal punishments that imply that while indoctrination is used to attempt to compel religious attitudes in children, in adults the Iranian regime sometimes relies on sheer force. In the northern city of Babolsar, a man received a sentenced of 70 lashes because he was accused of chewing gum during the holy month of Ramadan, when Muslims are expected to observe a strict fast during daylight hours. On Friday, two other men received 80 lashes each after being charged with eating during the day.
