The Iranian regime’s top rulers, Ali Khamenei as the supreme leader and Hassan Rouhani as the president, have a long history of dispute, which is not just related to the time of this president. All presidents which have come to power after the death of Khomeini as the founder of this regime have had a similar fate.

This ‘dogfight’ becomes more severe every time when this regime is close to its so-called presidential election. This time however this has intensified, such that both sides are calling each other ‘traitors to the Iranian nation’.

But the question here is which one is really a traitor Khamenei, Rouhani, or both?

On the issue of the sanctions and the 2015 Iran nuclear deal (known commonly as the JCPOA), Rouhani on March 17, 2021 said: “I emphasize this point, the delay in removing the sanctions is betrayal. Each faction, every person, each group who delays an end to sanctions even for one hour, for any reason – now, of course, today the reason is only the 1400 (2021) election – for whatever reason they want to delay the end of sanctions, this is a betrayal to the history of the nation of Iran. This eternal disgrace will remain for that faction and that person.”

The day when Rouhani expressed these words, many thoughts that the audience may be some of the commanders of the IRGC or the regime’s parliament speaker Mohamad Bagher Ghalibaf or any other who want to get rid of the present president with a delay in the start of negotiation with the United States. But the main audience of these speech, gave the answer to this message four days later.

On March 21, 2021 the regime’s supreme leader came to the scene and gave his answer: “We do not have to hurry at all in this subject that you gave as a solution. Now some say that this is an opportunity, this opportunity should not be burnt. But it should not be rushed. A hurry in some cases its danger and harm are more likely to have an opportunity.

“As if, we rushed in the case of the JCPOA. We should not be in a hurry. Their works were all on the paper, and our work on the ground. We rushed to do our work. They did not do their job. Did not fulfill their obligations. Of course, this is a very important issue that we note that we have enough patience and mood. We do our own work.”

In this way, the person to whom Rouhani was referring, who is delaying the agreement with the United States and has no hurry, is Khamenei. Iran watchers suspect Khamenei has decided to take the entire power and eliminate the so-called reformist rival faction, which of course was a tool for the regime to deceive the international community. Therefore, he wants the situation to remain stagnant until the election in June. So, if there would be any progress and success achieved, it would not be a plus point for Rouhani and his faction.

But this encounter had another face too. About the Internet while attacking the minister responsible he said: “Unfortunately, the virtual space of our country, which the necessary observance, despite all the emphasis that I gave is not done. In some way it is fully free. Those who are responsible must take care seriously.

“The whole world, all countries in the world are handling their cyberspace. We are proud that we are not handling the virtual space. This is not honored. By no means this is not honored. We have to manage the cyberspace.”

But the next day, the regime’s minister of Information and Communications Technology Mohammad-Javad Azari Jahromi gave him an answer and said:

“With advanced encryption and with satellite tools that are soon widespread, blocking sites is not a solution.”

From this short text it can be concluded that the situation at the pinnacle of this regime is dreadful and none of the sides have any solution to take the regime out of its deadlock. And the victims of this power dispute are the Iranian people who are suffering from the regime’s selfish policies. So, the real traitors in the history of Iran are very clear.
