Iran: Fishing career is on the verge of destruction / Reduction in marine resources and increase in the cost of fishing

Mohammad Karegar, CEO of Bushehr’s Fishermen Union pointing to a 50 percent reduction in shrimp fishing demanded government’s serious support for the fishermen. He said: “According to the statistics of Iran’s institute of shrimp, shrimp fishing had reduced by %50 prompting the fishermen to consider this job uneconomical.”

The CEO of Fishermen Union describing the fishermen’s demands said: “The fishermen ask to receive the government’s support package similar to the shrimp grow and process companies, carpet union and othe rs that received this package.

Granting low interest loans, relief on bank charges and other are among the support the authorities can offer the fishermen.”

“This guild was deprived of the minimal support after the government’s assistance stopped. Now the fishing career is going toward destruction. It remains as an unstable job with no job security,” he added.
