He was a member of the Islamic Supreme Council of Iraq, which was established by Iranian regime founder Ruhollah Khomeini’s order in 1982, and the Iranian supreme leader Ali Khamenei oversaw the drafting of its constitution.

In a message read by his envoy at Friday prayers in the holy city of Karbala on 29 November 2019, Mr. Sistani condemned the aggression and assault on peaceful demonstrations, particularly in Nasiriyah, and called for the removal of Adel Abdul Mahdi.

The dismissal of Adel Abdul Mahdi was a pressing demand by the Iraqi people during the two-month uprising that the ruling regime in Iran has so far prevented.

Ayatollah Sistani’s spokesperson reiterated with great sadness the news of the recent clashes in Iraqi cities, especially the injured in Nasiriyah and Najaf Ashraf. He added that the religious authority once again insists that it is forbidden to attack peaceful demonstrators and to prevent them from insisting on their right to demand reform.

Mr. Sistani’s message stated that, given that it has been made clear that the authorities are clearly incapable of dealing with the events of the past two months, including preventing bloodshed, the Iraqi parliament, from which the current government originates, is being called upon, to reconsider its choices and adopt the arrangements required by Iraq’s interests and protect the blood of the Iraqi people.

It also urged the parliament to expedite the approval of the electoral law so that it is acceptable by the people and to conduct a free and fair election whose results reflect the Iraqi people’s will.

This is the perfect solution to the pass the crisis in a peaceful way within the framework of the constitution, and delays will be very costly, and everyone will regret it.

Mr. Sistani’s statement adds that the religious authority remains a supporter of the Iraqi people and has no role other than advice and guidance, and that it is up to the people to choose what is most appropriate for the current and future situation of the country, in a way that no one will exercise authority over it.

It is clear that the statement in Mr. Sistani’s statement, first of all, strikes at the Iranian regime, to the surprise and dismay of its authorities.

Following the death and injury of a large crowd of people, especially the youths, in Nasiriyah, Najaf and Baghdad in the past days, and hours after Mr. Sistani’s statement, while millions of Iraqis protests in Baghdad, Karbala, Najaf, Nasiriyah, Basra, and other Iraqi cities, demanding the trial and punishment of the killers of the Iraqi people, Adel Abdul Mahdi announced his resignation.

His ouster, while he is one of the devotees of the Iranian regime, was Khamenei’s red line, because it was a major blow to the influence of his regime in Iraq. To prevent this dismissal, Khamenei sent IRGC’s Quds forces commander Qassem Suleimani to Iraq to force his pupped politicians and parties to support him.

The ouster of Adel Abdul Mahdi, Khamenei’s puppet government, and the victory of the Iraqi people

As the continuation of the Iraqi uprising led to the overthrow of the government and the prime minister under the rule of the Iranian regime, and after Ayatollah Sistani’s insistence on ousting and losing confidence in the government, on Friday afternoon, 29 November, Adel Abdul Mahdi Proclaimed his resignation.

Although the government and the next prime minister have not yet been appointed, Abdul Mahdi’s dismissal is a major victory for the Iraqi people and a humiliating defeat for the mullahs’ regime, and the Iraqi people’s uprising has passed through a turning point.

Following the ouster and resignation of Adel Abdul Mahdi, people and youth in Baghdad and other Iraqi cities celebrated their first sustainable achievement.
